FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about our paint protection film kits.

What is paint protection film?

Paint protection film is a transparent polyurethane film that adheres to the painted surface of vulnerable areas on your vehicle. It can be removed without any damage to your paint and does not affect appearance or aerodynamics.

It’s not visible from just a few feet away and, with minimal maintenance, the film will last many years—keeping your paint protected while looking great.

Why choose your kits over the competition?

See our comparison page by clicking here. This is a MUST READ.

Be wary of inexpensive kits offering clear “glossy” film that isn’t truly clear/top-coated—these can lose shine and look bad in a few short months. Also be wary of cheap 4mil film being sold as paint protection film.

Our top film has a lifetime warranty against defects (yellowing, cracking, peeling) and is called ArmorWrap Ultra Lifetime.

Are your paint protection kits difficult to install?

We went through extra efforts to find the perfect film that allows a first-timer to have great success installing our product. Our patterns are designed with the do-it-yourselfer in mind without sacrificing coverage.

We supply the tools needed, instructions, customer support, and a great product so you can succeed with a great installation. Most customers install without prior experience and are very satisfied—many return for additional kits.

Please note: We have no way of knowing a person’s skill level or outcome. It’s up to the individual to decide to use a professional installer or install themselves. Kits are tested to fit correctly; however, unless installed by a certified installer, we can’t guarantee the fit or outcome of your installation.
You offer 3 films. Why? Which do I choose?

We offer 3 different high-quality films:

  • ArmorWrap Premium – 5 year warranty
  • 3M Scotchgard Pro – 10 year warranty
  • ArmorWrap Ultra Lifetime – lifetime warranty

The warranty covers film defects like yellowing, cracking, and peeling. It does not cover installation errors or damage while on the road.

ArmorWrap Ultra is also hydrophobic, highly glossy, and very stain resistant. All films are 8 mils thick and install similarly.

NOTE: THERE ARE NO LOGOS ON THE PRO FILM & ARMOWRAP FILM. THEY COME WITH A PLAIN BACKING PAPER.
Do you cut out for parking sensors and headlight washers?

It depends. We may have the bumper design but not have those areas pre-cut yet. If you don’t see the diagram showing the cutouts and want to be 100% sure, please contact us.

On bumper kits we ask “Does your bumper have headlight washers or parking sensors?” to collect info about your vehicle. This doesn’t always mean a cutout pattern is already available—though usually we do have every option available.

Does the mirror kit cover the entire painted area of the mirror?

Mirrors are usually very curved. If the design covered the entire painted surface, it could be very tough or impossible to install. Many kits cover the most vulnerable area of the mirror.

Debris usually hits from the front, so the top often isn’t fully covered. If you want to be sure, email us and we can provide measurements. In some cases (flatter mirror backing), coverage may be full.

How does your film compare to spray-on protection?

Paint protection film is semi-permanent. It can be safely removed, but can last 5 years or longer. Spray-on protection is more temporary and should typically be removed in about a year or less.

In the long run, paint protection film is often cheaper because it only needs to be applied once.

Are there any special tools needed to install the product?

Yes—but we supply them free on precut film orders over $75.00. We include 2 quality 32 oz sprayers, rubber squeegee, razor type knife, microfiber towel, and our online video installation instructions.

(Note: the free installation kit is included on precut film orders only, not bulk film sold by the foot. We supply one free kit per customer for the same car; the kit can be used for dozens of installs.)

What if I buy a complete kit but need to reorder an individual piece?

We offer “installation insurance” (an additional 10% of your kit price). If purchased, you’re eligible to receive 50% off a replacement piece for up to 90 days.

We email instructions and the process is simple: we just need your email used on the original order, and the website will show eligible items to repurchase.

How are your kits different from competitors?

Using the proper film is just half the battle. Beyond great film, you need a proper-fitting pattern. Don’t be fooled by name-brand film paired with poor-fitting patterns—those are frustrating and won’t fit correctly.

As the saying goes: “You get what you pay for!”

I saw a cheaper price for the same clear bra kits. Will you match it?

We will often match it—and in many cases, try to beat it. Keep in mind a cheaper kit may offer less coverage or cheaper film. We need to verify it’s comparable, which usually means reviewing the source.

Use the Price Match link next to the Add to Cart button to submit details and purchase. We do review these orders for accuracy.

Is headlamp film different than paint protection film?

Some companies sell very thick headlamp kits (20–50 mil), but they can be harder to install and may trap more heat. We use the same 8 mil film for headlights that we use for paint protection.

What area of my car will be covered?

Coverage varies by year/make/model. Common areas include hood, fenders, side mirrors, bumpers, and optional pieces like headlights, rocker panels, door handles, and door edges.

Patterns are professionally designed per vehicle. You choose what pieces you want—we don’t require complete kits.

You offer different hood sizes—why?

The most popular hood coverage is cut on a 24" sheet (usually ~20–23" coverage). We also offer smaller sizes (18" and 12") for customers wanting less coverage or lower cost.

For newer vehicles we also offer 30" and full hood coverage kits. Note: the 12" size may not include fender pieces due to layout constraints.

How do I install this kit myself?

On precut film orders over $75.00 we include the proper tools and our instructional video. Our films and patterns are designed to be DIY-friendly.

If you still don’t feel comfortable, contact us and we can try to provide local installer information (if available).

Is there a Certified Installer in my area?

Paint protection film is widely used, and we may be able to direct you to installers in your area (rural areas may have fewer options).

We’re not affiliated with installers and can’t guarantee their work. Email us at sales@invisiblemask.com for help.

Do I need to do anything to maintain my vehicle once applied?

Wash and wax normally with mild soap and water as early as 24 hours after installation. Avoid waxes with dyes, abrasive polishes, and rubbing compounds.

3M recommends 3M Performance Finish. Another wax we recommend is Meguires NXT and/or Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Coating spray.

Remove wax build-up along film edges with a lint-free cloth.

Can I reuse this material once I apply it?

No. Paint protection film must be applied immediately after removing the backing. It cannot be removed and reused once applied.

What is the return policy?

Please click this link. Scroll to the bottom of the new page.

Will this product damage my paint?

This product is designed to protect OEM factory paint, not damage it. We do not guarantee film or installation results if applied to unpainted surfaces or non-OEM factory paint.

Before applying any film, make sure the paint surface is free of dust and dirt. Even slight dust can cause scratches if you slide film around on a dry surface. If laying the film on the car to judge fitment, thoroughly clean and wet the surface with soap/water, wet the film backing, and keep the backing clean.
Tell me about the warranty.

ArmorWrap Premium is 5 years, Scotchgard Pro is 10 years, and ArmorWrap Ultra is lifetime. The warranty covers cracking, peeling, discoloration, and film defects. It does not cover road debris damage, vandalism, or normal wear.

You must use a certified/trained installer to be eligible for the full 3M warranty. InvisibleMask will stand behind the product and do our best to take care of customers if we identify an issue with the film/product.

Can it be removed?

Yes—removal is safe for paint. Heat the surface to about 120°F, lift a corner with your fingernail, then slowly pull the film from the paint. A “safe for paint” adhesive remover can remove any residue if needed.

How hard is it to see on the car after it’s applied?

It is virtually invisible. The material is over 95% clear. On darker colors, you can’t see it from a few feet away. On stark white, you may see a slight edge/tint, but it’s still “invisible” at short distance.

Will my kit fit perfectly, edge to edge?

Some kits are purposely designed short so you stretch them into place. This compensates for contours and lets you pull out excess material around edges that would otherwise wrinkle.

Common analogy: wrapping a basketball with gift wrap creates wrinkles; stretching a “Saran Wrap” style material conforms smoothly.

How long should I wait to apply your product if my car has been repainted?

Ask your body shop. The time varies by paint type and whether it was baked. Generally, it’s about 30 days—often the same time they recommend waiting before waxing.

Tell me about shipping.

Orders over $75 ship UPS Ground free within the U.S. Orders under $75 are $8.95 shipping. Express upgrades are available ($45). UPS 2nd day is $35. Canada is $40 via USPS Priority Mail.

Orders usually ship within 48 hours; allow up to 5 days in transit (often less). Express orders usually ship within 24 hours. We do not ship Sundays.

IMPORTANT: Kits are custom made. They aren’t pulled off a shelf, so there can be a 1–2 day production window even with express options.
